This card shows Alexandra Fedorowna, Tsarina of Russia. Alexandra was born in 1872, june 6th in Darmstadt, Germany. Her father was Louis IV, Grand Duke of Hesse, her mother was Alice Maud Mary, Princess of Hesse-Darmstadt, which was the third of Queen Victoria's nine children. Alexandra had red-golden hair. After her mother she was named "Alix", which is the closest German pronunciation of Alice. In 1894, november 26th she married Nicolas II Aleksandrovich Romanov, Tsar of Russia. The marriage was celebrated in Winter Palace, St. Petersburg. Her husband loved her very much. The Empress and her powerful influence on her husband may have contributed to the downfall of Imperial Russia. She was very introverted, seldom smiled, was deeply religious and turned to a Siberian peasant monk, Gregory Rasputin (later murdered) for spiritual consultation, primarily because of the hopelessness of her son -the heir to the throne- Alexis' hemophilia. Her Russian was not good. She was hated by the Russian Nobility and also by the Russian people, because of she seemed them to be too Germanic. The couple got 5 children: Olga Nicholovna Romanov, Grand Duchess, Tatiana Nichilovna Romanov, Grand Duchess, Maria Nicholovna Romanov, Grand Duchess, Anastasia Nicholovna Romanow, Grand Duchess, Tsarevich Alexis Nicolaievich Romanov. Alexandra was murdered in 1918, july 16th in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
