Dowager Empress of Russia, Tsarina Maria Fedorovna

This card shows the Dowager Empress of Russia, Tsarina Maria Fedorovna. Tsarina Maria "Marie" Fedorovna was born in 1847 as Princess Dagmar of Danmark. Her father was Christian IX, the King of Danmark (Schleswig-Holstein House). Her mother was Princess Louise of Hesse-Cassel. In 1866 she married the later Tsar Alexander III Alexandrovich Romanov (1845-1894). Alexander III was a giant of man, and proud of his physical strength. He was 6'4" tall. Tsarina Marie got six children, four sons and two daughters. In 1894, after the death of her man, her eldest son, Nicholas, became Tsar of Russia. He was coronated in 1896. Tsarina Marie was a political very interested woman. She died in 1928 in Copenhagen (Danmark).
