Princess Alexandra "Alix" Feodorovna of Hesse and of Rhine married in 1894, november 26th Nicolas II Aleksandrovich Romanov, Tsar of Russia (born 1868-may-18th). The marriage was celebrated in Winter Palace, St. Petersburg. The coronation was held in the Uspensky Cathedral inside the walls of Moscow's ancient fortress, the Kremlin, on may 26th, 1896. The coronation was celebrated very splendid. Then a catastrophe happened: Among the crowded people, which celebrated the marriage at the Chodynka Meadows, a panic broke out. Some thousands of men became trampled to death. But the celebration was continued. This was the foundation-stone for a wall between the Tsar couple and the people. The Tsarina didn't like publicity, she lived very retired. Also she didn't speak the Russian language well. At the picture you see her together with her daughters: - Grand Duchess Olga Nicholovna Romanov, born on november 15th, 1895, - Grand Duchess Tatiana Nicholovna Romanov, born on june 10th, 1897, - Grand Duchess Maria Nicholovna Romanov, born on june 26th, 1899, - Grand Duchess Anastasia Nicholovna Romanov, born on june 18th, 1901. The whole family was murdered in Ekaterinburg, Russia, on july 17th, 1918.
