First day cover "... from Leipzig to all over the world". 5 cartoon stamps + special stamping!
The First Day Cover
On April 1, 2012, the first own stamp issue of the online mail order company M-ware® Electronics in Leipzig will appear on the exclusive first day cover available here in DIN C5 format. Since the company's eighth anniversary falls on a Sunday, a special occasion commemorative postmark will be issued. With this special postmark designed especially for the first issue, the first day covers will be struck off in the Deutsche Post philatelic center in Weiden on April 1, 2012. But read the story in order:
The project
After individually designed stamps had already been produced in Finland and Austria a few years earlier, this possibility will also be created in Germany in 2009. To this end, Deutsche Post is launching the "Brand individually" program. The company's development over the last few years is respectable, which is also reflected in the above-average increase in the number of items shipped. On this basis, towards the end of 2011, the project "Individual stamps for the online mail order business M-ware® Electronics" was created. It is clear from the start that the stamps to be developed, including the existing CI of the company, should support the company image both coherently and effectively. In order to make the small works of art appear likeable, cartoons are used. Under the slogan "... from Leipzig to all over the world", an atmospheric and likeable stamp series is to be developed for the M-ware company. The participation of the well-known Leipzig graphic artist and cartoonist Lothar Otto proves to be a hit right on the mark. After a few different drafts are available, the further search for a motif is aimed at people of different nationalities who transport the packages from M-ware® Electronics all over the world: an Indian with a turban, a cowboy with a colt on his belt, a European with a flat cap, an Indian with feather headdress. What all motifs have in common is the package that they happily deliver to the recipient. The already mentioned slogan "... from Leipzig to all over the world" represents the ties between the Leipzig-based company and its city. logo is used.
The graphic artist
Lothar Otto is a gifted cartoonist who has been publishing cartoons in the Berlin satirical magazine "Eulenspiegel" since 1961. In addition, Lothar Otto has long been known for numerous book illustrations and caricatures for other print media, such as the Leipziger Volkszeitung and the Swiss Nebelspalter. With his subtle and friendly sense of humor, Lothar Otto is the ideal caricaturist for this project. He celebrated his 80th birthday in March 2012, but that obviously doesn't slow down his creative urge in the slightest.
The slogan
The slogan of our mail order business "... from Leipzig to all over the world" was also used as the title of the stamp series. The series shows how the packages from Leipzig are delivered all over the world. A Christmas motif was also created.
The special stamp
The slogan used can also be found on the special stamp, on which the city of Leipzig is symbolized by the monument to the Battle of the Nations. The building shown diagonally shows the mail order branch. Arranged in the center of the stamp - and that can be considered unusual - is the stylized company logo in the form of an inclined "M". Such a depiction is normally not permitted on a special cancellation. The stamp is also certainly not only interesting for philatelists due to the representation of the Völkerschlachtdenkmal, but also for friends and visitors of the Völkerschlachtdenkmal, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2013.
The cartoon series
The cartoon stamp series will be in full issue through M-ware® Electronics' 20th anniversary in 2024, with alltogether 68 stamps.
